Requirements
Keep your graphics drivers up to date. An outdated driver can stop the client from starting, especially on laptops. Update it from your manufacturer's website (Intel, NVIDIA or AMD): it is the most common cause of launch problems.
Troubleshooting
Three failures come up regularly. All of them are fixed in the latest client; here is what to do if you run into one.
What you see
A Windows “Entry Point Not Found” error opens when you start the game or Setup.exe. Another sign of the same problem: Setup.exe no longer offers your graphics card, only “Voodoo2”.
What to do
Fixed in the client since version 1.2.3 and delivered by the patcher: run the patcher once and it replaces the faulty file. If you are still stuck, open your installation folder and rename dbghelp.dll to dbghelp.dll.old.
What you see
The message “Game files appear to be corrupted. Oro.exe was not found.” or “Failed to launch O-Ro” appears, or the file Oro.exe vanishes from your installation folder.
What to do
This is a false positive on the patcher, an unsigned program from 2014 that some antivirus engines judge on its behaviour. Since version 1.2.5 the launcher starts the game anyway: you play, but you no longer receive updates. Older versions stop dead, even though the game itself is untouched: to play right now, open your installation folder and run O-Ro.exe directly. The lasting repair is the same either way: add the game folder to your antivirus exclusions, restore Oro.exe from quarantine, then reinstall with the installer above.
What you see
The client starts, then the screen stays black or the window disappears, with no error message.
What to do
On some recent Windows setups, the display refuses the surfaces the client asks for. Version 1.2.5 and later ship a fallback renderer that switches on by itself: download the client again and the problem goes away. Conversely, if rendering looks worse to you since that update, open ddraw_wrap.ini in the game folder and write rendu_dgv=0 under the [oro] line.
